MALDI Imaging

   MALDI Imaging software

Matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization mass spectrometric imaging (MALDI-MSI) allows label-free spatial analysis of biological tissue samples.  Profiling of biomolecules such as small molecules, drugs, peptides and proteins is possible directly from tissue samples with a resolution of around 100 micrometers.

Matrix coated sections of tissue are introduced into the 4800 MALDI TOF/TOF and a laser is rastered over the sample while acquiring mass spectra at every image point.  BioMap biomedical image analysis software is used to process and display the data.

Matrix applicator device was designed in BME 201
